Superchunk in the shape of singer/guitarist Mac McCaughan, guitarist Jim Wilbur, bassist Laura Ballance and drummer Jon Wurster played Scala on the 1st December 2011. They were supported by Let’s Wrestle.

Always un-starry, Superchunk set up their own equipment and then played 21 songs. Mac made wisecracks about the band’s advancing years, but it hasn’t affected their performance on stage. The band delivered their songs with intent. They opened with Throwing Things and played the lesser-spotted Cadmium. Mr McCaughan jumped around and crowd-surfed.

Their Precision Auto is still precisely what we wanted. Many members of the crowd had been waiting to see this band for a long time. This gig had the feel of a reunion, a meeting of old friends.

Superchunk, it was good to see you.
