I didn’t fall down a JB-Weld YouTube rabbit hole, I tripped over it. That’s where I was introduced to the inventor David Riddle and his “mind’s‐eye high acutance visualisation”. He can see extremely detailed images in his thoughts.
I need to stick two pieces of metal together, with the minimum of equipment.
JB-Weld sounds good. It can cope with four metric tons of pressure.
Which led me to Dave Riddle’s guide to “How to Use JB Weld & JB-Kwik Epoxy Glue for Ultra-Strong Bonds on Any Material Pro Tips & Tricks”.
Riddle’s guide is informed by years of hands-on expertise. He makes highly specialised technical equipment for the “fields of mechanics, electronics and optics” that he designs in his mind, then fabricates in his “fully equipped laboratories and manufacturing facilities”.
Which led me to his video on “How To Make Millions With Your Inventions”.
In the video he talks about some of the products he’s created across 50 years of inventing. He also encourages people to create, not just consume.
Then, 22 minutes in, the video cuts to an unusual-looking device. Take it away, Dave:
“I don’t know if you understand what that is, it’s an array of high frequency piezo tweeters.”
It turns out that Dave had a “friend who has dogs that continually bark all the time”.
So Dave “built this particular device to be able to silence dogs and it works very effectively because I have a 150 watt portable power amplifier connected to a function generator and I dial up that frequency until the dogs instantly stop barking because they can’t stand the intensity of what this produces at high frequencies. This goes well beyond our audibility. Doesn’t hurt the dog.
“It doesn’t hurt them. They just stop barking because they are dumbfounded by this intense noise well within their hearing range.”
“I brought it over to his house and it instantly stopped the dogs barking and it’s very intense. And eventually the dogs learned apparently not to bark but whenever they would bark he would turn this thing on and it would automatically drive these dogs nuts and they would stop barking.”
Anti barking devices are for sale online but they are puny, measly things when compared to Dave’s behemoth.
As a side-project, the remarkable Mr Riddle has built the Saturn V Rocket, the Blue Whale, the Great Wall of China of anti dog-bark devices.
